Mumbai woke up to its chilliest December morning in six years on Monday, as Santacruz recorded a low of 13.7 degrees Celsius. Social media posts suggested the temperature drop marked the coldest December in the city since at least 2018.

A Break from Recent Record Temperatures

This new low shattered the previous record for the season, set just a few days earlier at 16.5°C. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a mainly clear sky for the remainder of the day, with the maximum temperature expected to reach around 32 degrees Celsius.

Air Quality Stays in Moderate Range

While the city experienced a chilly start, air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category as of 9:00 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 112.

“An AQI under the ‘moderate’ category generally means the air quality is acceptable,” experts stated. “However, there may be a slight health concern for a very small number of people who are sensitive to air pollution.”

Most residents are unlikely to experience significant health effects at this level. However, people with respiratory issues, such as asthma or allergies, may notice mild symptoms. As the smog lifted after sunrise, the view in the city brightened.

**Host:**‌ That’s quite ⁤a drop! Is this just a passing cold snap, or should Mumbaikers expect more⁣ chilly mornings ahead?

**Priya Sharma:** ‍While I can’t say definitively what the‍ rest of December holds, we are expecting cooler than average‍ temperatures for the next few days. The northern winds are bringing in ‍this colder air mass, and we’ll have to keep an eye on ⁣how these weather patterns develop.

**Host:** Do ⁣you have‌ any advice for our‌ viewers trying to adjust to this⁣ sudden change?

**Priya Sharma:**⁤ Absolutely! Remember to bundle up, especially in the mornings and evenings. This might be a good time to pull⁢ out those jackets and sweaters. Also, stay hydrated and warm inside by enjoying a⁣ hot‍ cup of tea or⁤ coffee.
