New disappointment for the Swiss women’s 4x100m relay, which was eliminated in the series at the Europeans in Munich. A last completely missed transmission between Salomé Kora and Melissa Gutschmidt caused the loss of the Swiss quartet, 9th in the semi-finals in 43”93.
As in the final of the Eugene Worlds, where Géraldine Frey, Mujinga Kambundji, Salomé Kora and Ajla Del Ponte had finished in a disappointing 7th place, hopes were dashed with a last failed handover. The “rookie” Melissa Gutschmidt left too quickly, and even almost brought down Salomé Kora. Kambundji had been rested for this semi-final.
“The disappointment is immense“, conceded Géraldine Frey and Salomé Kora at the microphone of SRF. “We know that everything is possible in a relay. And really a lot has happened this year“, for her part dropped Ajla Del Ponte. “We have to move on, but it’s hard to take“, continued the Tessinoise.
The qualified male relay
The men’s 4x100m relay, however, will play the final on Sunday at 9:12 p.m. Pascal Mancini, Bradley Lestrade, Felix Svensson and Daniel Löhrer – who fielded in place of William Reais – qualified instead. Third in the 1st series, they signed the 8th time, in 39”03.
