Multiple Tornadoes Strike Illinois: Extensive Damage Reported in Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry Counties

(CNN) — There were at least five reports of possible tornadoes in Illinois on Wednesday according to the National Weather Storm Prediction Center.

The reports were in Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry counties. The National Weather Service describes the types of damage reported to its office as downed trees, roof damage, and the warehouse damage report on the west side of Chicago’s O’Hare airport.

In Elgin, Illinois, at least 19 homes were damaged Wednesday night following a tornado was reported in the area, police said in a facebook post.

“Tornado sirens were activated tonight at 6:20 p.m. local time. Shortly therefollowing, the City’s Emergency Operations Center received reports of a tornado in the Edgewater (Del Webb) subdivision at Bowes and Randall Roads.” the Elgin Police Department said.

“Nineteen homes in the vicinity of the 2800 block of Stoney Creek Drive were affected,” police said. “Ten sustained significant damage and nine suffered cosmetic damage. A survey of the area confirmed that all residents were accounted for and no injuries are reported.”

CNN affiliate WLS said: “In Huntley, two apartment buildings in the Bakely subdivision sustained extensive damage, one losing its roof to an apparent tornado. Each building has four units, meaning eight families were displaced by the damage, but firefighters said there were no injuries. It was reported.”

In its Facebook post, the Elgin Police Department said it will post updates on storm damage this Thursday.

Elgin is regarding 40 miles west of Chicago.
