Multiple collision in Oregon leaves 7 dead and several injured

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Seven people were killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near Albany, Oregon, Thursday.

The Oregon State Police said in a statement that officers responded at 2:05 p.m. to a report of a crash 7 miles (11 kilometers) north of Albany. The accident involved two cargo trucks and a passenger vehicle in the northbound lanes.

Seven adults died from the accident and several people were injured, according to police. Authorities did not release an approximate number of injuries.

The cause of the accident was under investigation. State transportation officials said the northbound lanes of the freeway where the crash occurred were closed and a detour would be opened Thursday night.

Albany is located about 70 miles (113 kilometers) south of Portland.
