Multinational LDC expands its fleet of barges with the aim of continuing “betting on Paraguay and its people”

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) inaugurated this Monday the expansion of its fleet of barges, reaffirming its commitment to continue investing in Paraguay and its people. “We want to continue growing in the country and we are going to do it in a sustainable way, adding value to the entire production chain with more industrialization, jobs, as well as development for Paraguay,” he stressed.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Head of State, Santiago Peña, as well as other national, departmental and local authorities.

“This vessel represents a convoy of 12 new Yumbo barges, all of them Paraguayan flagged, built by Paraguayan shipyards and which opened their doors to us today,” said Blan Chart, CEO of LDC.

He recalled that LDC opened its doors in Paraguay in 2004 and has since become a key player in the country’s agro-industrial sector. We have a strong presence throughout the country and we are a trusted partner for Paraguayan producers, he said.

“This year we celebrate 20 years of presence in the country and it is a great pride to celebrate it by making new investments like these. During these 20 years our company has worked tirelessly to position the country as a supplier of quality food to the world thanks to the knowledge and commitment of our team and the great support of the LDC group in the region and around the world,” he said.

He indicated that they have currently positioned themselves as one of the three largest agricultural product traders and exporters in the country, with five commercial offices in the main agricultural areas, three grain and oilseed storage plants and their own milling plant in the interior of the country.

All of them employ more than 210 people directly and another 600 more indirectly. He said that to date, LDC has already invested more than 190 million dollars in industrial infrastructure.

He also mentioned that, in order to support its commercial-industrial activities, the Lógico Paraguay river transport company was inaugurated in 2007 with the objective of transporting national agricultural products through the Paraná-Paraguay waterway and connecting them with the world.

“With the addition of this new convoy that we inaugurated today, Lógico now has four tugboats and 92 barges to offer a nominal static capacity of 150,000 tons. As of today, Logico Paraguay will have a transport capacity of 1.6 million metric tons of agricultural products per year on our rivers,” he said.

In this regard, he said he was convinced that investments in river infrastructure generate a great synergy with our assets in Argentina, generating an industrial logistics chain that optimizes and drives the development of the Paraguayan industry.

For LDC, it is extremely important to continue taking advantage of the waterway and trade with the region and, consequently, continue to boost the national economy, he said.
