DAKAR, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) — Senegal will continue its role as a “defender and promoter of peace” on the international stage, affirmed Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Sunday.

“We will steadfastly maintain this position of defender and promoter of peace under all circumstances and in all places because it is a fundamental aspect of Senegal’s tradition,” he remarked on the public channel RTS, shortly after returning from the United States where he participated in the UN General Assembly.

In discussing this meeting, he emphasized that he had “challenged the Security Council regarding its role in conflict situations worldwide,” particularly concerning the Sahel region.
