Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif sworn in as Prime Minister of Pakistan

The leader of the Muslim League (Nawaz) party, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, was sworn in Monday evening to become the new prime minister of Pakistan, following the opposition parties won the vote of no-confidence once morest the PTI government.

Shahbaz Sharif was sworn in before Pakistani Senate Speaker Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, at the swearing-in ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Islamabad, in the presence of political leaders, heads of Pakistani armed forces and diplomats.

Speaking at the session of the Pakistani National Assembly following his election as the country’s prime minister, Shahbaz Sharif affirmed Pakistan’s determination to establish good relations with all countries.

Who is Shahbaz Sharif?

Shahbaz Sharif is the leader of the “Muslim League” party, and previously held the position of Prime Minister of Punjab Province, and he is the younger brother of Nawaz Sharif, who previously held the position of Prime Minister 3 times.

He is also a member of the wealthy Sharif family, which has made millions through the production of steel. His family was mired in scandal following his brother Nawaz was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a $10.5 million fine on corruption charges in 2018.
