Muhammad Al Mulla undergoes a full pilot’s suit experience

Dubai: Yamama Badwan

Mohammed Al Mulla, pioneer of the second batch of the UAE Astronaut Program, underwent a complete white astronaut suit and helmet, according to a photo he posted on “Instagram”, as part of exercises he is undergoing at the Johnson Space Center of the US agency “NASA”, with his colleague Noura Al Matrooshi.

According to NASA, the space suit is actually a fully functional spacecraft, and it may take an astronaut regarding 4 hours to put on his suit, from start to finish.

In the picture, tubes connected to the suit appeared, supplying the pilot with water, in order to cool the body during the mission, as the suit itself consists of many layers, and is made of highly durable fabrics and materials, which allow the pilot to maintain his body heat, and protect him from injury from small objects. It also includes a unit that is worn on the back, such as a backpack, that contains an oxygen tank for breathing, a system for filtering carbon dioxide that the astronaut exhales during breathing, a battery to supply electricity, and a wireless device to communicate with the crew of the vehicle and with the observation crew on the surface of the Earth. The headphones for the communication system and the microphone are also in the hat that the astronauts wear on the head under the helmet.

The helmet itself protects the astronaut from injuries, and through it he is supplied with oxygen from the portable tank on the back, while the front of the transparent helmet contains a protective layer that filters sunlight, while on the back of the suit there is a backpack called the “Basic Life Support Subsystem”, containing This backpack contains the oxygen that the astronaut breathes in during spacewalks, and it also removes the carbon dioxide he exhales.

The astronauts’ suit on Earth weighs between 150 and 200 kilograms, but it weighs hardly anything in space due to the weightlessness that occurs in orbit.
