Coordinating MINISTER (Menko) for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Muhadjir Effendy denied that the distribution of social assistance (bansos) was an effort to win certain candidates in the 2024 elections. He claimed that the distribution was purely to carry out the government’s mandate and program.

“We understand that our main duties and functions are linked to the democratic party. We need to emphasize that the implementation of these programs has been planned from the start,” said Muhadjir at the Constitutional Court (MK) Building, Central Jakarta, Friday (5/4).

Muhadjir understands that this assumption arose because it was close to the election. However, this program has a legal basis, namely Presidential Regulation Number 35 of 2020 concerning the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

“(It contains) the task of the Coordinating Ministry for PMK to coordinate, synchronize and control government administration in the PMK sector,” he said.

The distribution of social assistance, said Muhadjir, is an inseparable part of the main duties and functions of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture. Moreover, the government has a target to reduce poverty and extreme poverty.

“The RPJMN (national medium-term development plan, poverty) target is reduced to 6.5% to 7.5% from 9.36%. Meanwhile, efforts are made to reach zero percent for extreme poverty by 2024,” he explained. (Z-1)
