Verdi’s opera Nabucco celebrated its premiere in the quarry of St. Margarethen on Wednesday evening. The staging of the biblical battle between the Babylonian ruler Nabucco and the Israelites took place in front of a sold-out audience and received much applause.

The audience was enthusiastic and touched by Spanish director Franciso Negrin’s production of Nabucco. He works out the conflict between the two peoples with great sensitivity. The soloists were also full of sensitive emotion.

Bohinec: So besonders

Grammy award winner Lucas Meachem shone in the title role of Nabucco, while Ekaterina Sannikova as Abigaille and Monika Bohinec as Fenina also convinced the audience. It was so special, Bohinec enthused following the premiere, that playing in front of an audience was a completely different feeling. Finally, what you have been working on for months, you can present in front of the audience and that is always something very special.

Casellati: Played great

The Vienna Philharmonia Choir impressively intoned the most famous choral song in the opera, the prisoner’s choir, under the musical direction of Alvise Casellati. It was a wonderful performance, they worked a lot on Verdi’s sound and he believes that the orchestra, the choir and the soloists play great, says Casellati. The entire ensemble harmonizes on the imposing stage. Nabucco will be played a total of 18 times until August 14th.
