Almost fifteen years following the appearance of the skeleton fashion, Mauron Musy unveils its very first skeleton watch, the MU05 Skeleton Armure. The brand does not hesitate to take its time, and why would it? Its own skeletonized piece reflects the image of the brand: different and innovative. Inspired by the past while shaping the future.
Not going with the flow, not giving in to temptation, protecting your DNA: for nearly ten years, Mauron Musy has been a rare watchmaking breed and a secret jealously guarded by collectors. It is the only totally independent manufacture to have made the external complication of the watch its own, universally recognized speciality.
It is not necessary to present it. Its description is as simple as its operation is complex: no less than 36 components, including assembly flanges and satellite compression springs, ensure the perfect sealing of the case – without joints. The traditional O-ring seal has been relegated to the past (or at least to the museum or cabinet of curiosities); Mauron Musy’s Armor model is waterproof to a depth of 300 meters without any joints.
Previously, the operation of this ingenious mechanism might be glimpsed through the sapphire caseback of the brand’s creations. It was a good start, but didn’t go far enough, according to some collectors. Because in addition to having its own water-resistant complication, Mauron Musy has its own movement, which is not to be outdone: it is entirely exclusive, entirely manufactured in Switzerland – and within a radius of 60 kilometers around the workshops of the brand. Fans of “Ultra Swissness” and admirers of beautiful mechanisms wanted to know for sure. The result ? The Armor Skeleton, Mauron Musy’s first skeleton watch.
As you might expect, the brand paid little attention to convention. The MU05 Skeleton Armor has four successive dial levels, formed by a bezel, a flange and two dial levels with different treatments: one in NAC platinum alloy, the other in titanium or gold, depending on the model. To emphasize this plunge into the heart of the MM01-SK movement, Mauron Musy has decorated it with a multitude of relief engravings: the minute circle, the individual serial number, the brand’s emblem and his own mantra: ” Swiss Crafted”. Each surface has a specific finish – polished, satin, chamfered, sunburst or frosted. Every ray of light and every reflection captured in the 44 millimeters in diameter of the timepiece is exploited to the full.
In the center of this dial, Mauron Musy drilled a few holes in carefully chosen places. The aim is to reveal some key components of the MM01-SK caliber, but not all. ” We wanted to show part of our mechanical identity, while keeping the watch perfectly legible.explains Christophe Musy, co-founder and CEO of the brand. Too many skeleton watches fall into the overload trap, resulting in a dial so detailed it’s impossible to see the hands properly. We wanted a different result! We opened the dial just enough to reveal the vital components of our caliber: the escapement, the barrel and the hour and minute pinion ».
Being able to see the caliber and discern the beat of the escapement without losing any legibility is what gives the MU05 Skeleton a subtle balance between technical details and aesthetic charm. In response to requests from its collectors, particularly in Japan, Dubai and Switzerland, Mauron Musy has unveiled thirteen examples of these MU05 Skeleton Armure watches in titanium. Barely put on sale, eleven of them have already found takers, proof of market demand. At the same time, Mauron Musy offers, on request only, a “hard gold” model whose gold is specially treated to make it more resistant to shocks and scratches. Faced with this enthusiasm, the brand is already planning to write a new episode in its series of skeleton watches, perhaps even with another caliber.
