On Tuesday, the Tax and Customs Board (MTA) will start refunding overpaid income tax to those who have submitted their income tax return electronically and whose tax return does not require additional verification.
A total of 567,000 income declarations have been submitted to the MTA as of Tuesday, from which a total of 186.5 million euros of overpaid income tax is due for refund. Based on the currently submitted income tax returns, additional income tax must be paid in the total amount of 20.3 million euros.
MTA customer service is already receiving questions regarding when to expect a refund. However, the Agency asks for patience and reminds that the speed of income tax refund does not depend on the order in which returns are submitted.
“We make several tens of thousands of entries every working day, and no one misses a tax refund,” said Riina Randver-Sõer, MTA’s natural person service manager.
On the basis of income declarations submitted in paper form, the refund will start on March 17. Anyone can check the status of their declaration from e-MTA, and also see from e-MTA if there is a need for additional documents. The MTA has until October 1 to return the overpaid income tax.
In case of questions, you should first of all look for information on our website, contact by e-mail eraklient@emta.ee or the info phone 880 0811. The deadline for submitting the income declaration is April 30. If a person has to pay additional income tax, the deadline for paying it is October 1.
