MSMEs constitute the main economic support of Concepción

Asunción, IP Agency.- The strategic report “Survey of Socioeconomic Characteristics in Cities of Concepción” states that in the first department of the country, Micro, small and medium-sized businesses are part of the main source of income for households, in which 7 out of 10 owners do not have any other source of income.

Within the framework of the Project “Strengthening the entrepreneurial and labor ecosystem in Paraguay”, implemented jointly between the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Vice Ministry of MSMEs of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and strategic allies of the public sector, private, academy and cooperation, several activities were carried out in the city of Concepción.

The document reveals that this economic sector constitutes the main support of households. The report also indicates that 8 out of 10 companies are small and focus mainly on product offering, with an average turnover of Gs.1.5 billion annually.

Regarding internet service, the study reveals that 9 out of every 10 SMEs in the department of Concepción have internet connectivity.

At this point, it indicates that 39% of those surveyed have suppliers who supply more than half of the raw materials for the manufacture of their products or provision of services. This trend increases in the medium-sized business sector, reaching 47%. However, in contrast, the group of small companies reaches 37% with some supplier.

In general, SMEs in Concepción are experiencing notable growth despite the challenges associated with the distance from the country’s capital and existing obstacles.

During the presentation, it was highlighted that the landing of large investments in the area represents an opportunity to strengthen ties with SMEs.

Pilot Plan

During the day of the presentation of the report, he also announced the progress of the Concepción En Marcha Pilot, led by Doris O’higgins, coordinator of IncuCAE and Consulta En Marcha, who indicated that they found some businesses with an improvement in quality and competitiveness, through the application of personalized plans and training.

An improvement is seen in the entrepreneurial spirit of the participating people, to improve the business situation. Progress was made in the knowledge of new tools proposed by the En Marcha program, with a different empowerment of the owners for their entrepreneurship by obtaining the status of “company.”

At another time, the presentation of Local Digital – Launch of the Digital Checkup Survey with MSMEs in the hotel and gastronomic sector of Concepción was also carried out. Likewise, a Workshop was developed: Consultation on advanced human capital training needs in companies and organizations in Concepción.

Zero Hunger: business conference

These activities are carried out prior to the Business Roundtable and formalization day for MSMEs and producers of Family Agriculture, of the Zero Hunger in Schools Program, scheduled for this Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Club Conception.
