MSI has started announcing a new product segment on social media. Although the company has only provided three photos of the device so far, the first indicates that it is a gaming handheld, which it describes as a “new breed of MSI Dragon “. The other two images show the rear panel and the top edge of the device, which MSI will adorn with its logo and “TRUE GAMING” branding, respectively.
In addition, we can distinguish two ports positioned on either side of this marking. For one thing, the unnamed handheld has a 3.5mm jack on top, like most modern handhelds. On the other hand, there appears to be a lightning bolt inscription next to the other port on the top, which usually indicates the presence of Thunderbolt connectivity.
Strictly speaking, MSI’s handheld might be equipped with an AMD Ryzen APU and a Thunderbolt controller. Since this would give the device little practical advantage over its USB4-equipped competitors, it appears that MSI has instead opted for an Intel processor, likely a Meteor Lake part, due to its superior iGPU performance. Other details are unknown at this time, although the front of the device resembles the layout of the ASUS ROG Ally. MSI will share more details regarding its first gaming handheld next week at CES 2024.
