MSCI Welcomes Richard Mattison as New ESG and Climate Leader

MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), a leading provider of mission-critical decision support tools and services to the global investment community, has appointed Richard Mattison as Director of ESG and Climate, effective October 29.

In this role, Mattison will lead ESG and Climate product development and the company’s business strategy. He will work closely with MSCI leadership, including Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez and President Baer Pettit, to drive innovation and scale across the ESG and Climate product franchise and create integrated solutions that enable investors to remain at the forefront of sustainable investing. Mattison is based in London and will report to Alvise Munari, Director of Products.

Mattison has more than 20 years of experience in sustainable finance and was president of S&P Global’s sustainability unit. He was also CEO of Trucost Plc, a pioneering climate analytics company, which was acquired by S&P Global in 2016. Throughout his career, Mattison has consulted with numerous financial institutions, companies and governments on how to integrate sustainability and climate change analytics. in their decision making. Mattison was a member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance and a member of the People’s Bank of China Green Finance Task Force, both of which were instrumental in guiding policy in these jurisdictions. He is currently a senior advisor to the Task Force on Nature-Related Financial Disclosure (TNFD).
