[29日 ロイター] – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday called on ethnic minorities across Russia not to die in a “shameful war” and to resist mobilization by the Russian government.

In response to President Putin’s partial mobilization order, violent protest demonstrations are taking place in some areas where ethnic minorities live, such as the southern Caucasus and Siberia. It has been pointed out that in partial mobilization, such poor ethnic minorities are disproportionately targeted for conscription.

“You don’t have to die in Ukraine. Your sons don’t have to die in Ukraine,” Mr Zelensky said.

According to data compiled by the Russian research agency iStories, the proportion of Ukrainian war casualties is between Buryatia, one of the republics that make up the Russian Federation and bordering Mongolia, and the predominantly Muslim Caspian coast. The most numerous in the Republic of Dagestan.

More than 100 people were detained last week in Dagestan during anti-conscription protests.
