Mr. Tram Be was released from prison after completing 2 criminal sentences

On February 15, information from Ben Gia Prison (Ministry of Public Security, located in Tra Vinh province) said that Mr. Tram Be had completed 2 criminal sentences with a total of 7 years in prison. Accordingly, Mr. Tram Be was released from prison on February 10.

Mr. Tram Be is a Vietnamese of Chinese origin, born in 1959, from Tra Vinh, established in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. Be was arrested on August 1, 2017. The damage occurred when Mr. Tram Be held the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Credit Council of Saigon Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank – Sacombank.

Mr. Tram Be had to serve 2 criminal sentences, with a total of 7 years in prison. In the first case, Mr. Tram Be was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City for “Deliberately violating the State’s regulations on economic management, causing serious consequences” for helping Mr. Pham. Cong Danh – former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Construction Bank caused a loss of regarding 1,800 billion VND to this bank.

In the second case, in 2020, the People’s Court of Ho Chi Minh City sentenced Mr. Tram Be to 3 years in prison for the crime of “violating regulations on lending in activities of credit institutions”. In this case, Mr. Tram Be (as vice chairman of the Board of Directors of Phuong Nam Bank) and 8 defendants who are officers and employees of Phuong Nam Bank knew that Binh Phat Company was not eligible for credit. However, they still proposed to lend and approved loans, leading to a loss of VND 505 billion for Phuong Nam Bank.

Mr. Tram Be started in 1991 as the Director of Dong Anh Forest Products Processing Company, then 4 years later, held the position of Chairman of this company. In 1999, realizing the potential development of the real estate market, Mr. Tram Be entered this very new market. Started by investing in Binh Chanh Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (BCCI) and became a member of the Board of Directors shortly following. For many years, BCCI has become a real estate giant in the South when it owns a large land bank and many projects.

After achieving many successes in the real estate sector, he continued to invest in the medical field. In 2001, Mr. Be participated in the establishment of Trieu An Hospital, one of the first private hospitals recognized by the Ministry of Health.

In the field of finance and banking, the name Tram Be first appeared in 2004, when investing in Southern Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SouthernBank) and was a member of the Board of Directors. He used to hold the position of Vice President of Southern Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Southernbank) before joining and holding a similar position at Sacombank.

In October 2015, Sacombank and Southernbank merged, with his influence at SouthernBank and Sacombank, Mr. Tram Be is said to be the man behind the loudest merger in the banking system at that time between these two banks. .

In addition, he and his three children joined the Boards of Directors of several enterprises such as Phuong Nam Jewelry Company, Phuong Nam Securities Company and Sacombank.
