Rabat – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, had talks on Friday in Rabat with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Bilal Messoud.
On this occasion, the Mauritanian Prime Minister welcomed the results of the 8th session of the Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint High Commission, which he co-chaired alongside the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, stressing that “today, we have accomplished a great job. There is an understanding between the two parties in all areas and we are determined to continue our cooperation,” according to a statement from the House of Representatives.
Mr. Ould Bilal Messoud also highlighted the strength of the ties linking the two Moroccan and Mauritanian peoples, expressing a firm desire to move forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation in the various fields, “of so as to give substance to the ambitions of the two brotherly peoples”.
For his part, Mr. Talbi Alami noted the importance of continuous coordination and consultation at the parliamentary level between the two countries, saying he wanted to meet and hold talks with the President of the Mauritanian National Assembly as soon as possible.
The House of Representatives wants to raise bilateral and multilateral parliamentary relations to the highest level, through the Moroccan-Mauritanian parliamentary friendship group which will look into ways to promote ties between the two legislative institutions and between the two countries to achieve better stages of cooperation and solidarity, he added during this interview which took place in the presence of the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills, Younes Sekkouri and of the Ambassador of Mauritania in Rabat, Mohamed Ouled Hanani.
Mr. Talbi Alami then gave an overview of the roles entrusted to the House of Representatives as well as the achievements it has made at the continental, regional and international levels, expressing his determination to strengthen coordination with the Mauritanian National Assembly at the occasion of the presidency by the Chamber, from next April, of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean.
