Mr Putin said China would pay for Russian gas in equal splits between the renminbi and the ruble.

He said the Russian economy was coping with Western financial and technological aggression, but admitted that it faced certain difficulties in some industries and sectors.

Putin said Russia had lost nothing over the war in Ukraine and was on track to regain its international influence, which had fallen since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Asked by the facilitator if he had lost anything in the war in Ukraine, Mr Putin replied: “We have not lost anything and will not lose anything,” adding: “Everything unnecessary and harmful, anything that hinders our progress. I will be knocked out,” he said.
