Mr. Cherfa receives his Venezuelan counterpart

ALGIERS – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Youcef Cherfa, received, Monday in Algiers, the Minister of Productive Agriculture and Lands, Wilmar Alfredo Castro Soteldo, with whom he reviewed the state and future of bilateral relations as well as ways to strengthen them in the agricultural field.

During this meeting, which took place in the presence of executives from the two ministries, the two parties discussed the state of bilateral cooperation and the means of strengthening it in the future, within the framework of the Algerian Joint Intergovernmental Commission. -Venezuelan economic, commercial, scientific and technical cooperation, co-chaired by the Ministers of Agriculture of the two countries, in addition to strengthening the cooperative relations existing between Algeria and Venezuela in the agricultural field.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, Mr. Cherfa indicated that the discussions between the two parties had focused in particular on the establishment of a road map capable of concretizing the agreements signed jointly in June 2023, in Caracas (Venezuela), in terms of agricultural development and veterinary health. It also involves the establishment of a cooperation program in this area between the two countries.

The minister underlined, in this sense, the importance of Venezuela’s agricultural assets, affirming that Algeria has the necessary capacities to export its agricultural products as part of a complementary approach.

On a working visit to Algeria, the Venezuelan Minister of Productive Agriculture and Lands leads a large official delegation, made up of the Ministers of Transport, Tourism, Fisheries and Foreign Trade in addition to the Deputy Minister of Economy, and more than 80 businessmen representing several sectors.

In this context, a meeting between Algerian and Venezuelan economic operators will be organized Monday evening, “an opportunity to set up a program of economic and commercial exchange between the two parties”, adds Mr. Cherfa.

The minister recalled on this occasion the importance of the direct air line between Algiers and Caracas, inaugurated on Sunday, affirming that it “will establish Algiers airport as a hub connecting Asian, African and European cities to the portal opened with the ‘Latin America from Caracas’, in addition to its role in strengthening bilateral economic relations.

For his part, the Venezuelan minister highlighted the evolution of the levels of cooperation between the two countries, in different areas, including agriculture and veterinary health, adding that the discussions also focused on strengthening bilateral trade in agricultural products. from an integrated perspective.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed, in their capacity as presidents of the joint intergovernmental commission, the areas of energy, industry, trade and tourism.
