Mr Bensaid inquires about the state of cultural infrastructure in Agadir

Agadir – The Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, made a series of field visits to Agadir on Friday to inquire about the state of cultural infrastructure in the city.

This trip is part of the program of the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication declined in a series of visits to different cities and provinces of the Kingdom, in order to learn and stop first hand on the ‘state of cultural infrastructure as well as the progress of current projects.

Thus, Mr Bensaïd, accompanied in particular by the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, Governor of the Prefecture of Agadir-Ida Outanane, Ahmed Hajji and the president of the Council of the Souss-Massa region, Karim Achengli, visited the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella and the rehabilitation of the “Sahara” Cinema, as well as the construction project of the Grand Theater of Agadir.

“The Ministry of Culture and its partners wish to promote the local heritage of the Souss-Massa region, in particular its intangible component largely devastated by the earthquake which occurred in Agadir in 1960”, indicated Mr. Bensaid in a statement. press statement on the sidelines of this visit.

Likewise, he specified that his department attaches great importance to the enhancement of historical monuments and the protection of the collective Moroccan memory.

The restoration and rehabilitation works of the Kasbah of Agadir Oufella and its surroundings are carried out using modern techniques specific to the archeology of heritage buildings. They relate in particular to the restitution of the ramparts which takes place in two stages, namely the facade on the city and the sea and then the other facades.

The project includes the idea of ​​an archaeological restitution of the ramparts as they were the day before the earthquake of February 29, 1960, while taking into account rich earlier periods.

It also involves the development of a service platform, the installation of an intramural visit deck at the end of the circuit and the fitting out of the historic intramural holy sites and the memorial, as well as the botanical trail, the biodiversity corridor and the ecosystem protection network.

The works of the architectural restitution and the rehabilitation of the historic site of Agadir Oufella is part of the Urban Development Program of the city of Agadir (2020-2024), launched by HM King Mohammed VI, for a budgetary envelope of 5.991 billion dirhams.
