American YouTuber MrBeast, who has over 200 million subscribers, revealed that his annual income is about $700 million (about KRW 934.8 billion). He said he reinvests most of the money he earns in content creation and that he is not yet rich.

Jimmy Donaldson (25), who is active as Mr. Beast, said in an interview with Time, an American current affairs weekly, on the 15th (local time) that his annual income is about $600 million to $700 million (about KRW 801.3 billion to KRW 934.8 billion).

But Donaldson insisted he was not rich. “I mean, not right now,” Donaldson said. “I reinvested everything to the point where I was foolish to believe we would succeed. And it worked.”

Donaldson explained that most of the videos he makes are expensive because they require large sets to be built. Donaldson puts a lot of effort into making his videos, sometimes filming for 12,000 hours just to make a 15-minute video.

“Each video generates millions of dollars in advertising revenue and millions of dollars in brand deals,” Donaldson said.

Time magazine said of Donaldson, “Few people over 30, except those with children, have ever heard of him, but he may be the most notable person on the planet.”

Time magazine said of the content Donaldson creates, “It’s something a 9-year-old boy with a rich imagination would try if he had a ton of money.” This could be destroying an expensive car, giving life-changing amounts of money to strangers, or holding a contest to see who can do something stupid the longest.

Among the videos he uploaded, the one with the most views was a video filmed two years ago imitating the Korean Netflix drama ‘Squid Game’, which recorded over 500 million views.

According to his mother, Susan Parrisher, the reason Donaldson became a YouTuber was because of Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that occurs in the digestive system.

Donaldson was a promising baseball player in high school, but Crohn’s disease left him unable to continue playing sports. Afterwards, he turned his attention to video production.

However, as Donaldson’s channel grew rapidly, he also experienced growing pains. A dozen former employees of Donaldson’s company told the Times that he tended to ignore safety issues while filming, which led to some injuries.

In addition, there was testimony that the burden of performance was too high, making it difficult for employees to endure for a long time.

“People are experiencing tremendous stress,” said one former employee. “There is a lot of fear that they might be fired at any time,” he said.
