The story is not a ghazal of a mighty man, who has doubts about the narrowness of his feet, the story is like water and wind, it makes its own way.
Water and air are symbols of life and life is a story every moment. ‘Mr and Mrs Shamim’ is one such story that has made its way to you. Some stories can’t stand the big screen or the mainstream. This story will have a similar problem. But as soon as it was released as a web series, it shocked not only the Pakistani but also the international audience that stories like a woman giving birth to a child out of wedlock in Pakistan are being written.
The answer is that if such incidents are happening in our society and if there are incidents of newborn babies being left on garbage heaps, why can’t they be made the subject of drama? And web series, too, have different requirements than television.
Although the duration of this series is said to be too long, it is the series. Considering this as three seasons, the length of the story seems normal. The first ten episodes go on breathlessly, in which a story reaches its logical conclusion.
The next episodes are the fruits of the seeds sown. A person’s training and environment, which we do not give much importance to and are blown away by the talk that we can change everything. It has been discussed how much can change and how everything naturally changes. What color does oppression bring? What soul sows hardness, how deprivation fights life. How are roads made? How time changes and how the masks come off.
Maybe it will be longer today. Will take heart. If you have heard the birds chirping in the silence of the night or heard the cuckoos on the beach, then believe me, you may be in this state after watching this drama.
Nauman Ejaz and Saba Qamar have done amazing acting (Zee 5).
The story travels in a specific civilization, it has no artificial kind of glamour. It can be said to be a musical web series in which the color of Sufism is dominant.
Childhood deprivations that become dreams. Saba Qamar had made a foolish attempt to interpret such a dream in the form of a mother. Girls who read Digest usually make heaven inside themselves with such dreams, if they get a chance, they even jump into it. The heroine of the play also looks at the digest as romantically as if everything written in it would be life.
‘You’ll have to forget the fun’
But how does it get to this point of fun, how many crunches do you try to put together? The story is presented in a very brutal aesthetic. One character is empowering the other characters. A rebellion is depriving the rest of human lives. In one love, another love is making its place.
This culture of the narrow and dark streets of indoor Lahore may not be visible anywhere, but here it is shown with all its strengths and weaknesses.
Shamim is a third gender character, but in this play his inner male is not dominant but his inner female is dominant. Perhaps that is why the story has become popular and accepted. To this day, this gender is subject to many misconceptions. In which their feelings are not their eyes. It has been seen through the eyes of misunderstandings.
And the spirit of a woman has always been shown to be dominant, while the reality is as vast as the universes. Shamim and Mrs. Shamim are friends but Shamim falls in love with her. Once he even expresses his love while he himself realizes how a woman can like a man like him and she likes a traditional man like Bilal. Although Shamim is more sensitive and loving than her.
When one discovers the secret of love, one becomes Mrs Shamim
Who have been victims of lack of love themselves. When they fall in love, they fall apart, and even after hitting the mountains, they make it in the end. Shamim is one such character who defies all conventions of time for his love. Even so, if man understands this power, weakness makes man strong and when one finds the secret of love, he becomes Mrs. Shamim.
A man needs a woman’s expression of love just as much as a woman does. At the end of the tenth episode, such a veiled expression makes Shamim’s life proud.
Before that, Mrs. Shamim is a young girl with dreams. After his mother’s death, his father did not remarry, but admitted him to a hostel in Lahore, where he not only befriended Shamim, his friend’s brother, but also met Bilal, a super prince with the same digest stories. Appeared as a superhero. What he thought was love turned out to be lust for patriarchy. Bilal fulfills all the definitions of a man, but time has proved that he only fulfills the definition of a man, what is a man, he does not fulfill it.
She became hopeful and Bilal not only refused to accept but also slandered her. Which is usually the last resort of a man to get rid of a girl.
The family did not accept. The hostelers kicked him out, Shamim was with him when he was scolded by the society. He was her friend even before this lust, he was still standing with her as a friend. Shamim’s sisters also did not want to keep him, but the only son’s feelings made Mamata strong and she took her son’s love as her daughter-in-law.
Now that child was born which was not Shamim’s. Sometimes Mrs. Shamim wants to kill her own child in depression, and sometimes Shamim’s childless sister wants to offer him some talismanic trick for her children. Shamim stayed with him as a mother but also with his wife as a friend and a human being.
Stories beget stories within stories, just as stories beget charm. The play which is being said to have a lot of boldness in it, the question is that if the act done secretly would not bear fruit on its branches if it came in the circle of hijab.
As much as the story could have demanded, as much spice could have been thrown into it, the perfection is that the scene has been hidden, the symbolism has been used where it was needed.
Nauman Ejaz and Saba Qamar have done a wonderful job in acting, the rest of the cast also seems to be doing a unique job of their part. The entire production team did not let the story and events go out of hand. The dialogue is like fiction.
Bold topic?
It is being said that the subject of this drama is very bold, but remember that this is not a television drama but a web series and web series are many times bolder.
Although the story could have demanded, the kind of chili spice that could have been put into it, the perfection is that the scene has been hidden, the symbolism has been used where it was needed.
As Shameem’s niece comes home from Madrasah, Maulvi Sahib has been sexually assaulting her. The whole scene and the girl’s rebellion is shown only to the extent of a scene or a chilling dialogue ‘Now I’m used to taking a cold bath,’ or her throwing her own dupatta in the air. When Shamim’s sister is convinced that she is not barren but her husband is sick, she rebels to turn her husband’s taunts into truth. Only he is shown to be happy, bowing, or having an intimate dialogue.
How natural it is for a person born under oppression to be a rebel in this play, this aspect of nature is heavy on thousands of prescriptions of training.
This section contains related reference points (Related Nodes field).
Training does not happen by itself in such an environment. Only the environment is evolving. Shamim did not want to be a cruel husband like his father, nor a strict and social man like his sisters, nor a cheating pervert like Bilal. He is unique and remains unique.
Saba Qamar has played the role of a social girl throughout her artistic career. This is the psychological point in these scenes and dialogues. If you have obscenity in your mind, here you will see only obscenity, and if there is humanity, then you will see a complete human being, but we either want to see an angel or a devil. We want it for our own sake. Man is a complete figure of good and evil.
‘I didn’t have romance in mind at all’
The web series also highlights aspects of life, which cannot be discussed in TV and film. It presents stories that are not for everyone, but are the color of life. When the story is not in general access, it doesn’t even match the thinking of the general viewer.
The charm of the story has captured us so much that we were forced to ask the author Saji Gul, what was in your mind while writing the story?
He said that ‘romance was not in my mind at all. There were issues of gender stereotyping. Feminism is only about women. The intention was to indicate the sensitivity of the man and the social attitudes towards him.’
This is the answer we often think. Half of women’s problems are basically just men’s emotional and social problems. If they are solved, many women’s problems will solve themselves, but instead of rooting out the problems, we always prune the tree from the top. Everything is as it is.
The story is like Shahrzad’s Nights, if you have guts it can be watched, otherwise web series test is different. As the style of narratives diverges.
Shame is a form of male love that replaces hatred or silence with its love. Whatever the relationship, whatever the connection. Deteriorated by hatred, harshness, selfishness.
Man is neither an angel nor a devil and this is the story of people who are neither angels nor devils.
