MPs in ‘Nehru’s India’ become criminals: Singapore PM | Singapore PM

New Delhi: Controversy is brewing over the Prime Minister of Singapore’s reference to ‘Nehru’s India’. India’s opposition was prompted by remarks made by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during a debate in Parliament.

“According to media reports, Nehru’s India has become a country where criminal offenses such as torture and murder are perpetrated once morest regarding half of the MPs,” Lee Hsien Loong said. The debate in the Singapore Parliament was on how democracy should work.

Lee Hsien Loong said that most democracies are founded on great ideas, but as part of political change they deviate from those ideas. At the same time, the central government disagreed with the remarks, which were offensive to India. The Foreign Ministry has reportedly summoned the Singapore High Commissioner to protest.
