MPC Sint-Franciscus swimming pool closes permanently

STRIJTEM – The swimming pool was inaugurated in 1976, but is closing its doors for good after 48 years. At the time, it was equipped with the most advanced technology and taught generations of children to swim.

A recent technical inspection revealed concrete rot in the load-bearing structure that supports both the roof and the pool shell. A structural engineer confirmed that the building requires major structural work and that safety can no longer be guaranteed.

Closure

Despite all efforts to keep the pool operational for as long as possible and the adjustments over the years, the building and the technical installations are completely worn out. The safety of the users is paramount and that is why it has been decided to close the pool.

The management of the MPC Sint-Franciscus thanks the staff members for their years of dedication and care to keep the pool in good condition. This gratitude also applies to the loyal visitors and the associations, who found their way to the pool for years. They made the pool a lively place.

The closure of the swimming pool does not affect the MPC sports hall, which remains available for rental to external associations.

Residents of Roosdaal can use the swimming pools in Ternat and Liedekerke at the resident rate.
