The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported that during July 28 and 29, in the context of the presidential elections, a total of 1,236 officials of the Public Ministry (MP) will be deployed throughout the national territory through the situational rooms. The prosecutor warned that those who talk about electoral results before the official pronouncement of the National Electoral Council (CNE) would be committing an electoral crime.

“There is only one electoral power here, as there is anywhere else in the world (…), they are the only ones to issue electoral results, and those who do so outside of that constitution or legal competence know that they are committing a crime,” he said.

During a statement from Parque Carabobo, Saab said that the Attorney General, line directors, senior prosecutors, provisional prosecutors and assistants will be included and will be “on alert 24 hours a day to everything that happens in real time to prevent any circumstance that has the objective of tarnishing or hindering the electoral event.”

“As this election event on July 28 is something of a high profile event and one that we have anticipated will attract a great deal of attention on a global scale, we decided that the same number of officials would also be deployed on Monday,” he explained.

He also stressed that if someone has a complaint that day, “they can go to these situational rooms, the prosecutor’s offices and the central headquarters in Caracas during the 24 hours that all the MP offices will be permanently open.”
