Guillermo Vinicio Herrera García, also known as “Willie,” “Champion” or “The Godfather,” will appear before the Fifth Criminal Sentencing Court this Wednesday, July 24, to resolve the extradition request against him.

Through Luis Alfredo Vásquez, his defense attorney, Herrera requested to be sent to the Mariscal Zavala prison, to which the Court agreed after deliberation and indicated that the next hearing will be by videoconference on August 9.

The lawyer said that his client is a vulnerable person, as he could be the target of crimes in another prison, so he asked that Herrera García be taken to Mariscal Zavala.

Herrera García allegedly acted as a receiver of cocaine shipments from Colombia to Central America and Mexico from 2018 to September 2021, and was ultimately imported into the United States.

Both received shipments of cocaine by plane in Guatemala, Honduras, Belize and Mexico on clandestine landing strips.

The investigative body recalled that both were extradited to the United States, where they pleaded guilty and served sentences.

Guillermo Vinicio Herrera García then returned to Guatemala and reportedly became involved in drug trafficking again in 2018. To do so, he established contacts with supply sources in Colombia to obtain large shipments of drugs that arrived in Belize and Guatemala, before being sold to Mexican buyers.
