MP launches investigation into assassination threats against Maduro

This Friday, Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced that the 83rd National Prosecutor’s Office had been appointed to “investigate and punish the new assassination threats” once morest President Nicolás Maduro.

The decision comes following Maduro requested an investigation into a public complaint filed by an alleged Colombian paramilitary group that identifies itself as “Self-Defense Conquistadoras de la Sierra.”

In a video posted on X on Friday, the group said: “Our units in the department of La Guajira have been contacted by far-right groups in Venezuela, to destabilize the government of the Republic of Venezuela.”

They claim that “the interlocutors have made all kinds of requests, including attacking the electrical infrastructure, acting once morest the candidate president Nicolás Maduro, acting in case he is re-elected by infiltrating protests and generating chaos in the streets.”

In this regard, the alleged paramilitary group states that its organization “does not get involved in the internal affairs of other countries, and that our organization is responsible for and has the purpose of maintaining order in the Sierra Nevada.”

They also said they would contact “the diplomatic authorities of Venezuela to provide details of the information disclosed.”
