Attorney General Tarek William Saab warned that the authorities of the Public Ministry (MP) are monitoring the acts that the institution considers “calls to violence” in the streets, following the announcement of the results of the elections held on July 28.
In this regard, Saab said that “we have seen with concern the failure to recognize the result by a radical sector with a long history of calls for violence.”

The MP will therefore be monitoring any act that might lead to an escalation of violence, the official added.

He also warned that the alleged “acts of violence and calls to ignore the official results may be classified as crimes of public incitement,” under Article 285 of the Penal Code, Saab said. These will carry a sentence of 3 to 6 years in prison, he stressed.
On the other hand, obstruction of public roads, as specified in article 357, will carry a sentence of 6 to 10 years in prison, he said.
Likewise, the crimes of “incitement to hatred (art. 20 of the Special Law against Hate)” will carry a sentence of 10 to 20 years.
Finally, he stressed that resistance to authority, as provided for in Article 218 of the Penal Code, carries a penalty of 1 to 2 years in prison.
