MP confirms that remains found in a well on a farm belong to Floridalma Roque – 2024-07-18 09:04:45

The Public Ministry (MP) confirmed on July 16 that the human remains found on a farm correspond to Floridalma Roque.

The Office of the Prosecutor for the Crime of Femicide, in charge of the case, reported on Tuesday, July 16, that various investigative procedures have allowed the process to reach its current phase.

The mid-term hearing is scheduled for August 21.

During a procedure carried out by the prosecutor’s office, the human remains were located and sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

“They were asked to carry out genetic and anthropological tests, as well as the relevant autopsy. Through these analyses, it has been confirmed that the remains correspond to Floridalma Roque,” confirmed the MP.

The son of the deceased patient, José Roque, said last week that the family was waiting for the results of the forensic tests following spending almost a year in uncertainty to find out the whereregardings of his mother.

A year of waiting

The human remains were found on June 5, 2024, inside a pit, almost a year following Roque’s disappearance, which the family reported on June 13, 2023.

The MP reported that they were in an advanced state of decomposition and were transferred to Inacif.

Roque’s relatives confirmed at the time that the discovery of the body was possible following Kevin Malouf, in preventive detention since August 2023, gave a confidential statement in which he indicated the location of the remains.

The femicide prosecutors went to the point mentioned by Malouf, regarding 29 kilometers away from the capital city. During the trip, they crossed the Pacific route, passing through Villa Nueva and Amatitlán, until reaching Palín, Escuintla, and finally San Vicente Pacaya.

The road to the “Barraca del Mezcal” farm, where the skeleton was found, is August 2024, is difficult to access, desolate and with dense undergrowth in the surroundings. It takes approximately 20 minutes to reach the site, where prosecutors worked for hours to extract and collect evidence.

Case details

The MP confirmed the disappearance of Floridalma Roque following cosmetic surgery with Dr. Kevin Malouf on June 13, 2023.

Roque, who had traveled from the United States for the operation, lost contact with his family following the operation.

The family reported the incident and an Isabel-Claudina alert was activated to speed up the search. The last record of Roque was the payment for the surgery.

The clinic staff claimed that Roque had left the place in a taxi, but the family did not believe this version.

47 years later, on July 28, 2023, Malouf and two members of his staff were arrested for their alleged involvement in the disappearance.

On August 4, 2023, Malouf and his staff were brought to trial and placed in preventive detention. The Femicide Prosecutor’s Office alleged that Malouf and his staff had faked Roque’s exit from the clinic.

During the trial, details of how Roque’s body was allegedly concealed were revealed, and Malouf was charged with kidnapping and obstructing criminal prosecution.
