MP carries out proceedings at TSE headquarters for confidential case – 2024-07-05 13:29:44

On Wednesday, July 3, personnel from the Anti-Money Laundering Prosecutor’s Office carried out an on-site inspection of the IT Department of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), the results of which were not revealed because the case is confidential, official sources reported.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) confirmed that the Prosecutor’s Office against Money Laundering or Other Assets carried out an ocular inspection “in a property located in zone 12 of Guatemala City, this in follow-up to an ongoing investigation, which in accordance with the provisions of article 10 of the Law against Money Laundering or Other Assets, and by virtue of the nature of the crimes that are the object of the investigation, is under reserve.”

The TSE Communications Department said the investigation was carried out at the IT Department and stressed that information is scarce due to the confidentiality of the case.

For her part, Blanca Alfaro, president of the TSE, reported that the MP verification was made to the computer equipment at the TSE headquarters in zone 12.

According to the magistrate, this operation represents at least eight raids by the MP on TSE offices.

Remember that two raids have been carried out in the Citizen Registration and List Preparation Department: one in Human Resources; one in Political Organizations of the Citizen Registry; one in the central headquarters of the TSE; one in the El Naranjo warehouses; and one in zone 12.

Since 2023, when the general elections were held in Guatemala, the MP has carried out several proceedings at the TSE; in addition, it has made accusations against electoral workers and magistrates in proceedings related to alleged electoral fraud.

In fact, Alfaro pointed out that the Special Prosecutor’s Office against Impunity (Feci) has 34 complaints against him, of which 6 have become requests for withdrawal of impeachment.

Alfaro said that these actions undermine citizens’ confidence in the justice sector and cause a deterioration in the institutions.
