Movement in the mountains after the accident on the Nordlandsbanen – all crews pulled out

– It is true that there has been movement in the mountains. Those working in the area heard that there was movement. Then the work was stopped immediately, and everyone on the site was pulled out, says press officer Øystein Stavdal Paulsen in Bane Nor to the newspaper.

He says this is done for security reasons.

– This means that the area is not safe, and then work on the recovery of the train must wait until we know it is safe for the crew. Safety comes first.

The driver of the passenger train traveling north died on Thursday when it derailed when it ran into a rock slide. Four people were injured in the accident which happened at 2pm on Thursday. 46 people were on board the train.

Before the clearing work can continue, a piece of the rock above the train track must be removed.

– In particular, it has been decided that we must remove a large rock pile before work can continue on site. This one is over the track, over where the train is now. This bergnabb is close to the original stone block that ended up on the track where the train is located, says Paulsen.

The E6 in Hemnes is also closed as a result of the fatal accident. On Saturday, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration announced that the road that connects north and south will open on Tuesday at the earliest. The recommended detour is via Sweden. This route is approximately 270 kilometers longer than the normal route.
