Movement in sight for the CH

With days to go before the season begins, it seems inevitable that the Montreal Canadiens will make at least one trade.

With Joel Edmundson still struggling with an injury, head coach Martin St-Louis only has three veterans on hand defensively: Mike Matheson, David Savard and Chris Wideman.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if the Canadians compromised,” said Renaud Lavoie on Friday at JiC.

“Do you really want to have three rookies on defense on any given night in the National League? The answer is no. You’ll probably go for a role player who can stabilize things a bit. You will give a little oxygen to your young defenders.

Then in net, the situation is not much better with Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault. Only Cayden Primeau also has a contract allowing him to play in the Bettman circuit.

“It’s the only team that only has three goaltenders under contract to be able to play in the National League,” continued Renaud Lavoie. Most teams have four, five or six…that’s the norm. This will be an important file to watch from now until the opening match.

Whether through waivers or trades, expect to see movement within the Habs over the next few days.
