Former State Secretary Beatrix Eypeltauer (SP) died on Thursday, June 15, at the age of 93. The city of Linz announced this today. Eypeltauer – born on July 10, 1929 in Linz, was a member of the National Council from 1975 to 1983 as an SPÖ mandatary.

Under Chancellor Bruno Kreisky, she became State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Building and Technology in 1979 and also held this position in the following cabinets until her retirement in 1987.

She was also a member of the regional board of the Association of Socialist Academics in Upper Austria and a member of the district board of the SPÖ Linz-Stadt. From 1975 to 1987 Eypeltauer was President of the Upper Austrian Tenants’ Association.

After graduating from high school in 1948, Eypeltauer studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate in 1952. Beatrix Eypeltauer was the daughter of the mayor of Linz, Ernst Koref, and the actress and playwright Elmire Koref.

“With Beatrix Eypeltauer, the city of Linz has lost a well-deserved personality in politics and public life, who in her role as state secretary and member of the National Council has continuously campaigned for the interests of the city of Linz and the province of Upper Austria. She always remained close to her native city of Linz and was considered a ‘grande dame’ of federal politics. Her commitment was primarily to social justice and social cohesion across party lines. Our sympathy goes to the relatives, especially her son, his family and her grandson,” said Mayor Klaus Luger.

Beatrix Eypeltauer’s son is the Linz lawyer Ernst Eypeltauer, her grandson Neos state party leader Felix Eypeltauer.
