Mountain goats, an endangered wild animal, have recently been sighted one following another around the coast of Samcheok, Gangwon-do.
It appears that their habitat has been destroyed and they have come down to the coast, so measures are needed as they might easily suffer damage such as roadkill.
Reporter Bae Yeon-hwan covered the story.

A black animal is resting next to a rock.
After a while it jumps up and disappears behind a tree.
With a large white spot on the neck and black fur extending from the back to the tail, the mountain goat is Natural Monument No. 217 and a Class 1 endangered wild animal.
The mountain goat was spotted last month, not in the mountains, its main habitat, but on the coastal road in Samcheok, Gangwon-do.
At that time, mountain goats moved freely up the steep mountains and were not particularly alert to their surroundings.

″While they were grazing, cars were passing by and we were coming up and saw it, so we just took a picture. This is my first time seeing a mountain goat.″
This is where the mountain goat stayed.
In general, mountain goats are known to live in high and rugged places.
The mountain goat photographed this time was found close to the sea and adjacent to a road.
On the 30th, a mountain goat was seen walking at the foot of a mountain near a coastal road regarding 10 km away.
Experts believe that mountain goats, whose habitats were destroyed by forest fires or who were pushed out of competition for habitat, moved to the coast.
The problem is that there is a high possibility of accidents such as road kill.

″Because the habitat is fragmented, there are many other risk factors in addition to roadkill, so it can be considered an unstable space.″
There are indications that the habitat environment for domestic goats should be investigated in detail and protection measures should be further strengthened.
