The massification of motorsports in Chile suffered last year 2006 and Hard hit with the closing of Las Vizcachas Autodromea 5-turn circuit that opened its doors in 1965.

The 1.59 km race track located in Puente Alto was closed 17 years ago to give the land to a housing project. After a long time without competitions, the racetrack reopened its doors in the 2012 and currently works as Advanced Driving Center which provides training courses for sports and defensive driving.

Given the scarcity of nuts events in the country, currently pigeonholed in karting and RallyMobil, the private company and ‘nuts’ lovers have tried to keep interest awake on all four wheels on national soil.

This November 12, one of the great motorsport events will arrive in Chile with the Red Bull Showrun. A free event open to the public that will see the RB7 pass through Avenida Apoquindo, between El Golf and El Bosque streets, on a route of more than 1 kilometer.

This will be the third time of a Formula 1 car in Chile. The first was in the year 2006 with a car from Red Bull, the team that today rules the top nut category thanks to the prominence of the Dutchman Max Verstappen, brand new three-time world champion.

And the second was exactly 11 years ago, also with the energy drink team present, when the Scottish driver was present in 2012. David Coulthard giving life to a brilliant show in Plaza Italia.

And the question that arises is: What other elite ‘nuts’ events have come to the country?

Formula E: the race of electric cars of the world championship has arrived in Chile three times, specifically in the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

The winners of the tests, held on the street circuit of Santiago and Parque O’Higgins, were: the Frenchman Jean-Éric Vergnethe British Sam Bird and the german Maximilian Günter.

World Rally: The highest point of the rally worldwide came this year for the second time to our country, with the 11th stop of the World Championship that took place in the Bío Bío Region between September 28 and October 1.

The first time the WRC was experienced on this long, narrow strip of land was in the 2019specifically between May 9 and 12 in Bío Bío.

In both editions, the winner was Estonian Ott Tänakworld champion driver in 2019.

Rally Dakar: Chile in the Dakar Rally has been represented throughout history by different motorcycle, car, ATV and truck drivers. Besides, from 2009 to 2014the Rally was run on national lands, as well as in other South American countries, which encouraged a greater number of entries.

Thanks to the Dakar, Chile is remembered for the contrast of its landscapes which offers desert, sea and the Andes Mountains, and which was witnessed by audiences from 190 countries in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and the Middle East. There are nearly 1 thousand viewers in the world who follow the rally and they saw images of our country due to the interest that this competition arouses.
