The American firm is also embarking on the mad race for charging power. Its ambitions are however realistic with its 125 W adapter.
Motorola wants to play in the big leagues and also intends to offer a smartphone equipped with ultra-fast charging. In 2021, Xiaomi announced the upcoming arrival of a charging power of 200 W. More recently, Oppo presented a project of 240 W, as well as a more concrete and realistic 150W technology in the short term. The latter is already offered by Realme, another brand of the BBK Electronics group, in its GT Neo 3.
The American manufacturer, currently under the thumb of Lenovo, wants to follow this trend and has therefore just teaser on the Chinese social network Weibo its latest 125 W charger. In order to differentiate itself from other manufacturers, the brand specifies that its adapter is particularly light since it would weigh only 130 g, almost half as much as those of its counterparts.
For now, Motorola has not yet specified which smartphone this technology is intended for. However, rumors have been evoking for a few months a terminal whose code name is “Frontier”. It might be equipped with a multitude of advances and become the true flagship of the brand.
A boosted smartphone with 144 Hz OLED screen, 194 Mpx sensor and 125 W load?
And leaker Digital Chat Station posted on Twitter some of the potential features of this high-end smartphone. If his assumptions hold true, the “Frontier” might feature a 6.67-inch FHD+ OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. The tipster also mentions a 60MP selfie camera and, at the rear, a main sensor of 194 Mpx (1 / 1.5 inches). It might offer 125W ultra-fast charging, as well as 50W wireless charging. The power might also be particularly muscular, like the rest of the technical sheet. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor successor has been mentioned several times. It might be the Plus version which should be unveiled shortly by the founder.
If all these rumors turn out to be true, the “Frontier” will emerge as a competitor for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Xiaomi 12 Pro, Oppo Find X5 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The leaker considers that a lighter version might also make its entrance. It would keep the same screen, but would be limited to a 16MP selfie camera and a 50MP main rear sensor. The charging power would be more classic, 68 W.
At this point, has not yet confirmed neither the existence nor the characteristics of this smartphone. We will probably have to wait a few more months before learning more.
