Motorola presents smartphone with 200 megapixel camera sensor

A year ago, Motorola returned to the Swiss smartphone market with three new devices from the Edge series. A year later, the US manufacturer is now presenting the successor to the Edge 20 models.

The flagship: Motorola Edge 30 Ultra

The camera system of the Edge 30 Ultra in particular should convince customers: According to the manufacturer, the flagship device offers the industry’s first main camera sensor with 200 megapixels. By combining 16 pixels into a 2.56 micron ultra-pixel, the phone shoots bright and clear images even in low light, while the optical image stabilizer automatically corrects camera shake. In addition, according to Motorola, the smartphone has a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 60-megapixel front camera for “razor-sharp” selfies.

The manufacturer also wants to take video recordings to the next level. According to Motorola, the device enables 8k videos with a resolution of over 33 million pixels. 4k recordings according to the HDR10+ standard should also be possible.

Photography affine are not the only ones for whom the new Motorola flagship has something to offer. Behind the 6.67-inch POLED display with a refresh rate of 144 Hertz is a first-generation Snapdragon 8+ chipset, as the manufacturer continues. Thanks to Snapdragon’s elite gaming features, the smartphone reduces touch latency with a touch rate of 360 Hertz when gaming. With up to 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 gigabytes of storage space, as well as 5G connectivity, the cell phone is also ideally suited for mobile gamers.

In addition to the 125 watt quick charge function, which according to the manufacturer can charge enough battery capacity for a whole day within 7 minutes, Motorola also emphasizes the special edge lighting of the device. The edges of the smartphone light up in different ways to inform regarding incoming calls, received messages or pending alarms.

The Motorola Edge 30 Ultra will be available in stores from September for CHF 999 (RRP) in the colors Interstellar Black and Starlight White.

The designer piece: Motorola Edge 30 Fusion

Symmetrically curved edges, the front and back combined with a smooth contour, as well as a polished and sandblasted aluminum housing give the smartphone a unique look that is both retro and modern, according to the manufacturer. The Edge 30 Fusion is not only beautiful to look at, it also has something to offer technically.

The 6.55-inch borderless POLED display with HDR10+ and a refresh rate of 144 Hertz is supported by two large stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos when gaming or watching movies, as Motorola writes. The smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 888+ 5G mobile platform, which further improves the performance of the device.

The camera system of the mid-range version of the Edge 30 consists of a main camera sensor with 50 megapixels and optical image stabilization. According to the manufacturer, the so-called all-pixel focus ensures that the camera takes bright photos even in low light. In addition, the device has a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and an integrated macro camera, as well as a 32-megapixel front camera.

If things have to be done quickly, the cell phone’s battery can be charged for the entire day within 10 minutes thanks to the 68-watt fast charging system according to Motorola.

The Motorola Edge 30 Fusion will also be available from September in the colors Cosmic Gray and Aurora White for CHF 729 (RRP).

The compact all-rounder: Motorola Edge 30 Neo

The Motorola Edge 30 Neo may be the smallest of the three newly introduced smartphones, but it still has a lot to offer. The device, equipped with a Snapdragon 695 5G, has a 6.28-inch POLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hertz. This covers the entire DCI-P3 color gamut and, with the support of the two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, is perfect for any form of audiovisual entertainment.

While the Edge 30 Neo has the same 68-watt fast-charging system as the Edge 30 Fusion, the cheapest device in the mid-range has a little more in terms of camera. The Neo has a main camera sensor with 64 megapixels and an additional sensor with three perspectives, as Motorola further writes. There is also a 32-megapixel front camera on the front.

Motorola worked with Pantone for the coloring. The Motorola Edge 30 Neo will therefore be available from September in the colors Very Peri, Aqua Foam, Black Onyx and Ice Palace for CHF 449 (RRP).
