Motorists are warned: There are icy roads here

This is stated by several of the watch chiefs at the country’s police circles.

The notice about snow and icy roads applies in the following municipalities: Aalborg, Brønderslev, Hjørring, Thisted and Mariagerfjord, this is stated by the Directorate of Roads on their website.

Find the winter tires

The Swedish Road Administration comes on the social media X with a reminder that it is almost time to change to winter tires.

35 salt trucks have been on the roads on the night of Monday and in North Jutland they have salted Hadsund Landevej and E45 from Randers to Støvring. This is stated by the Road Directorate in a press release.

It may be a good idea to follow the weather forecast, because forecasts from Denmark’s Meteorological Institute (DMI) warn that parts of the country may experience the winter’s first snowfall and strong winds when an intense low pressure approaches Denmark on Tuesday.

The Road Directorate’s winter council

  • Familiarize yourself with the Road Directorate’s Traffic Map before leaving home.
  • Leave home in good time so that you can drive calmly and carefully if the road is slippery.
  • Remove snow and ice from all windows and lights – also remember the roof.
  • Be especially careful in exposed places where there is a greater risk of slippery roads. This applies especially to stretches of forest, low-lying areas and on and under bridges.
  • Note that smooth roads are not always visible. Therefore, drive carefully, even if the road looks good at first glance.

The winter weather continues

Meteorologist at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute (DMI) Mette Zhang stated on Monday that this week offers wintry weather.

Tuesday starts out with sun and a few showers that may include sleet and hail. It can get down to minus three degrees at night.

Wednesday will offer rain, sleet and snow showers throughout the country. Especially from Wednesday onwards you should pay attention to slippery roads, she said.

– From Wednesday, the precipitation may begin to subside. So you should be alert throughout the day, especially if you drive into a shower of white precipitation, said Mette Zhang.

How effective is salting roads in managing winter⁣ weather conditions?

**Interview with Lars Eriksen, Senior Meteorologist at Denmark’s Meteorological Institute**

**Editor:** ⁣Thank you for joining us⁣ today, Lars. There have been warnings about impending winter weather⁤ across several municipalities. Can you tell us ‌more about what the ‍forecasts are indicating?

**Lars Eriksen:** Absolutely. As⁢ we approach Tuesday, we’re anticipating an intense low-pressure system that could bring the first significant snowfall ‌of the winter season to ⁢parts of Denmark. ‍This includes strong winds ⁢that ‍may contribute to hazardous driving conditions,⁤ particularly in the regions of Aalborg, Brønderslev, Hjørring, Thisted, and Mariagerfjord.

**Editor:** It sounds like safety is a top priority. What advice do you have for drivers as this winter weather approaches?

**Lars Eriksen:** Well, first and ⁤foremost, it’s crucial for drivers to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts. If you’re in the affected areas, please consider switching to winter tires if you haven’t done so already. They provide the necessary traction on snowy and icy ⁤roads. Additionally, we recommend exercising caution when driving and allowing extra time⁣ for travel.

**Editor:** We’ve also⁤ heard reports of salt trucks being deployed in North Jutland. How effective is salting in these conditions?

**Lars Eriksen:** Salting is an essential measure. It helps to melt‍ ice and snow, creating safer driving conditions.‌ The Road Directorate’s deployment ‌of 35 salt trucks is a proactive approach to managing the roads before the snowfall arrives. However,‌ once ‍the snow starts accumulating,‌ it can still pose challenges, so drivers need to ‍remain vigilant.

**Editor:** how should residents prepare for the possibility of severe winter weather?

**Lars Eriksen:** It’s always good⁢ to prepare in advance. Stocking up on essentials like food and medicine is wise⁢ in case snow accumulation disrupts travel. Residents should also ensure their cars are winter-ready and have emergency kits in place, just ⁣in case they’re stranded⁤ during a storm.

**Editor:** ⁣Thank you, Lars,‍ for those insights and practical tips. Stay‌ safe this winter, and we’ll keep an eye on the weather developments.

**Lars Eriksen:** Thank you for having⁣ me. Stay warm and safe!
