The sky became slightly overcast, the wind became more violent: the surprise was general in the paddock of COTA (Circuit Of The Americas), near Austin. And these conditions, which the drivers had not experienced since the beginning of the weekend, will have consequences. From the first corner, several of them find themselves on the outside; a little further, it’s a real game of skittles: Chantra, Aldeguer, Lowes find themselves on the ground.
In front, the championship leader Celestino Vietti is soon surprised by Aron Canet, his great opponent announced for the title. Acosta, the reigning Moto3 champion doesn’t go much further. Then (5th lap), it was Vietti who lost control of his bike: Canet mightn’t believe his eyes, he was in the lead, he was even virtually the leader of the championship. But three laps later, the Spaniard in turn joined the list of those eliminated.
Who’s next? To American Cameron Beaubier in the final round; the Californian, who had signed his first pole the day before, fell while fighting for fourth place. Far from a formidable Tony Arbolino – his first victory in the category -, the Japanese Ai Ogura (second podium in a row) and the Briton Jake Dixon (first career podium). In the championship, Vietti retains his place at the same time, Ogura has returned to 14 lengths, Arbolino to 16, Canet to 21.
