Archyde (A): Thank you for joining us today, AKP Santi. Can you describe the incident and the series of events that transpired on Thursday morning?

AKP Santi Marintan (SM): Thank you for having me. The incident occurred around 4:30 AM at KM 39+700 on the Southbound lane of the Jagorawi toll road. A motorbike, carrying two passengers, was traveling from Parung Banteng towards Jakarta when it unluckily collided with a car. The passenger sustained fatal injuries, while the motorbike driver and the car driver sustained serious injuries.

A: That’s tragic. What are the initial findings of the examination, and what factors do you believe contributed to this accident?

SM: Our initial investigation suggests that the motorbike driver was driving at speed that was not appropriate for the current traffic conditions. The driver of the car, although not at fault, seemed to have sudden brake and maneuver avoidance, which is another contributing factor. Witness accounts and CCTV footage are supporting our findings.

A: Its understood that motorbike drivers tend to weave in and out of traffic, which could have contributed to this incident. Are there any recent changes in traffic regulations or enforcement targeting motorbike drivers to improve safety?

SM: Yes, we are aware of the common motorbike driving behaviors that may lead to accidents. We are working on implementing stricter enforcement on these practices, such as lane discipline and speed limits. Earlier this month,we launched an awareness campaign encouraging motorbike drivers to ride more responsibly. However, changing habits takes time, and accidents like this one serve as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety for all users.

A: That’s a great initiative. What steps are being taken to prevent such accidents from happening again?

SM: We are working closely with the toll road operator and local authorities to improve traffic management and signage at potential hazard spots. We will also continue to enforce traffic regulations, especially during peak travel hours, and intensify our public awareness campaigns. We aim to educate motorists about safe driving practices, the dangers of speeding, and the importance of anticipating potential hazards on the road.

A: Thank you, AKP Santi, for sharing your insights on this tragic incident and the steps being taken to enhance road safety. Your efforts are crucial in ensuring the safety of all road users in Bogor.
