Two-time world champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo) admitted that his strongest rival this season is still the leader of the standings, Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing)

“It’s true that for half the season, the two of us have always led races and sessions, and I think until (the last round at) Valencia, it will be like this,” said Bagnaia, quoted from the official MotoGP statement, Thursday (3/10).

However, the racer who is familiarly called Pecco also does not deny that Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo) and Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing) have the opportunity to compete with him and Martin this season, considering their fairly consistent performance in every round.

“It’s true that mathematically, Enea and Marc might be champions. We have to consider them,” said Bagnaia.

However, Bagnaia said his main focus now is to reduce the margin behind Martin.

“I think it’s fun to fight Jorge again. It’s always a fair fight and we have fair respect for each other,” said Bagnaia.

“It’s great to be able to fight again like this, and it would be nice if we could fight before the end of the season. I think the better rider will win; it’s been a difficult season with mistakes from both of us, but it’s true that Jorge is more consistent
compared to me,” he explained.

For the next race, Bagnaia believes that he and the team need to improve their performance slightly in order to compete closely with Martin.

He believes that the Japanese GP series at the Motegi Circuit could be a new opportunity for him.

“Motegi is a track that I like and a track that suits my riding style better than Mandalika, we have many
braking and acceleration points, and this is similar to Austria, which is a track that I think is good,” said Bagnaia.

“We have to be ready to face any situation, and I think our performance can give us good results and top points
Jorge,” he added.

The Japanese GP will start today, Friday (4/10) with practice sessions at 08.45 WIB and 13.00 WIB.

On Saturday (5/10), the second free practice session started at 08.10 WIB, followed by a qualifying session at 08.50 WIB, and the Sprint Race at 13.00 WIB.

The main race for the Japanese GP will be held on Sunday (6/10) at 12.00 WIB. (Ant/Z-1)
