Italian Francesco Bagnaia will start from pole position in the Dutch Grand Prix in MotoGP. In Assen, he beat the Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, leader of the world championship, and the Spaniard Jorge Martin.
Spaniard Aleix Espargaro and Frenchman Johann Zarco, respectively 2nd and 3rd in the championship 34 and 61 points behind Quartararo, will start 5th and 7th on the grid.
To be confirmed during the race
After his fall last week in Germany, Bagnaia has the perfect opportunity to catch up a bit. The Italian, who achieved his 4th pole there in the last 6 Grands Prix, no longer has the right to make mistakes if he wants to preserve his chances of a title. While he reigns over qualifying, with a new track record in the process, the vice-world champion does not convert in the race.
Despite his 2 victories in May (Spain and Italy), the Turinese is only 6th in the championship, 91 points already from the Frenchman Quartararo, the same one who beat him last year in the championship. The duel they fought in 2021 might resurface in the second half of the season. Perhaps as early as Sunday, in the “cathedral of speed” in Assen.
