MotoGP FT2: Honda beaten

For Honda, the second practice session is disappointing after the promising signs in FT1. Nakagami only finishes in 13th place. Pol Espargaro isn’t really recovering after his fall and is in 17th place behind Morbidelli, Bezzecchi and Bastianini.

Further down the list is Alex Marquez, who sits 19th between Tech 3 rookies Garnder and Fernandez. Bradl is in 22nd place behind Dovizioso. The German is trailed only by Di Giannantonio and Darryn Binder, who, like Bezzecchi, ends practice with a fall.

MotoGP FT2: Two Aprilias at the top

Aleix Espargaro and Vinales keep their double lead. Miller was able to improve at the end, but he only came within 0.219 seconds of the best time, which means third place. He ousts Quartararo, who finishes fourth. Behind them are Brad Binder, Rins, Mir, Martin, Zarco and Marini, all of whom will move straight into Q2.

Marini’s teammate Bezzecchi crashes late and ends up in 15th place. He also ensures yellow flags, which is why Bagnaia, among other things, can no longer increase. He is twelfth behind Oliveira.

MotoGP FT2: Waiting

When it comes to tyres, the drivers have plenty to choose from. Because even if there are actually two training sessions less, the quota has not been reduced. Everyone has enough fresh tires to attack again. But nobody wants to be the reference, which is why they stroll along the route.

Apparently many are waiting for Bagnaia, who needs a fast time but is annoyed. He then accelerates, but brakes again on the start-finish straight to let the train pass him. This could have an aftermath.

MotoGP FT2: Things are moving in the classification

Shortly before the start of the last ten minutes, the hunt for times officially begins. More and more drivers are now increasing their personal bests from the first free practice session.

Quartararo moves into third place behind the top Aprila duo. Rins, Martin, Zarco and Mir follow on places four to seven. Brad Binder, Miller and Oliveira complete the top 10. Almost everyone makes one last pit stop and prepares for the closing stages.

9:27 p.m

MotoGP FT2: Aprilia ahead of Suzuki ahead of KTM

The two Aprilia pilots alternate at the top. Now Aleix Espargaro is ahead again. More and more drivers attack again with fresh tires. Mir moves up to third place, followed by the KTM works duo Binder and Oliveira. They are all faster now than in FT1.

9:24 p.m

MotoGP FT2: It’s getting faster

Vinales is back on the track with a fresh set of hard-soft tires and increases the best time to 1:38.454 minutes. This makes him the new overall leader and half a second faster than his closest pursuer and teammate Aleix Espargaro. But he, too, is on the road with fresh tires and is now trying to top it up.

9:16 p.m

MotoGP FT2: Brad Binder defected

Smoke billowed out of Brad Binder’s KTM at Turn 12. It could be engine damage. The South African rides to the side and parks his bike at the side of the track. For now, he only has one motorcycle at his disposal.

9:06 p.m

MotoGP FT2: Pol Espargaro im Kies

After Gardner, Pol Espargaro also fell at Turn 1. He was a front wheel slide, but the Spaniard rolled over in the gravel anyway. But he’s doing well and isn’t wasting any time getting back to the pits. In the classification he is only 14th in this session.

9:03 p.m

MotoGP FT2: Aprilia double lead

Now Vinales has also joined those drivers who are faster than in the FT1. He moves up to second and is only 43 thousandths slower than his Aprilia team-mate. In the rain in Indonesia, Vinales didn’t get past P16, but spoke of the most positive day with Aprilia so far. The progress seems to be reflected in results here as well.

9:00 p.m

MotoGP FT2: New overall best time

On his eighth lap, Aleix Espargaro was the first to break the 1:39 mark this weekend and set a new overall best time of 1:38.956 minutes. The Aprilia pilot started the session on a fresh hard-soft set.

He is one of six pilots who have improved compared to the first practice session. These include Martin, Zarco, Miller, Bagnaia and Morbidelli.

8:54 p.m

MotoGP FT2: Bezzecchi at the front again

Bezzecchi celebrated his first Moto3 victory at this circuit in 2018. He also seems to get along well with the MotoGP bike right away. After a strong fifth place in the first practice session, he moved up to second place in this session and is the best Ducati rider. His brand colleagues Martin and Zarco follow in third and fourth place. Unlike Bezzecchi, you are on the road with the new GP22.

8:49 p.m

MotoGP FT2: The first incident

Gardner, who went down in turn 1, shows an early fall. But that didn’t happen to the rookie. He was the only one who had mounted the medium tire on the front wheel.

Most riders start the session on used tires to collect more durability data. So we don’t see any big increases compared to the first training session. Only Morbidelli and Martin have already improved.

8:46 p.m

MotoGP FT2: tire choice

Meanwhile, temperatures in Termas have climbed to 26 degrees in the air and 43 degrees on the asphalt. When it comes to tires under these conditions, almost everyone agrees: hard rubber is the choice for the front and soft rubber for the rear. Aleix Espargaro sets the early pace, setting a first best time of 1:39.293 minutes.
