MotoGP: Bagnaia wins at Silverstone, Quartararo remains leader – rts.ch

Italian Francesco Bagnaia won the MotoGP British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Frenchman Fabio Quartararo retains the lead in the world championship despite his disappointing 8th place.

Now 3rd in the drivers’ standings, Bagnaia signed his 2nd success in a row following his victory in the Netherlands. Maverick Vinales and Jack Miller complete the podium, taking advantage of the fall of Frenchman Johann Zarco. Starting on pole for the 8th time in 96 Grands Prix, Johann Zarco fell on the 5th of 20 laps and still has to wait before achieving a first success in MotoGP. The 32-year-old rider lost control of his motorcycle in a turn while leading the race.

Inconsolable, it was from the garage that Johann Zarco saw Francesco Bagnaia win the race and overtake him in the championship. To win, Bagnaia was patient. Unlike Johann Zarco, Bagnaia did not fall back into his ways, he who gave up 4 times in the first part of the season.

A penalty for Quartararo

For Fabio Quartararo, defending champion, the race was made more complicated by a penalty. Sanctioned for having hit Aleix Espargaro in the Netherlands. While he was in 2nd place behind Zarco, this handicap made him drop to 5th. Quartararo then failed to hold his rank. But he still widened the gap in the championship: he now has a 22-point lead over Espargaro, 9th on Sunday, and 51 over Bagnaia.
