As the second qualifying session of the MotoGP of Italy began, Marc Marquez dropped. The Spaniard had taken the lead, but missed his turn. His motorcycle caught fire.
Fortunately for the Spanish driver, he was able to get up and go back to his pit. But the red flag was waved and qualifying suspended, the time to clean the track.
This fall will doubtless not remain without consequences. After qualifying, Marquez and his entourage called a press conference. If the Honda driver should be present on Sunday at the start of the Grand Prix, the Italian GP might be his last race for a long time.
Marquez will indeed have surgery on his right arm following the Grand Prix. A new intervention, the 5th since 2019, which should keep him away from racing for many months. “I will be operated on next week. (Since the injury), I feel great discomfort. I realized this season that I don’t take pleasure, I suffer a lot, I don’t run as I want“, indicated the Spaniard, without being able to specify the duration of his unavailability.
A convalescence of 5 months seems however probable. This would mean the end of the season for Marquez, so we should see him once more next season… if all goes well for him.
