We start with the design with two devices that seek to look like other models of the respective brand. The G53 has revamped the camera block to a more modern form factor that highlights the two larger sensors. The M23 already has the spine that contains the lenses, as well as its more expensive “brothers”.
In any case, both have a plastic body both on the sides and on the back. The Moto gets the upper hand for being more compact and lighter than the Galaxy, but don’t expect any dust and water protection from them.

Motorola also got it right by putting a notch in a hole in the display, more advanced than the drop format used by Samsung. In any case, the biometric reader on them does not change and is integrated into the power button.

The two phones feature an IPS LCD screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. That means you won’t get a high level of brightness or a wide viewing angle, but high fluidity is guaranteed in the system’s animations.
The Galaxy’s display is slightly larger in inches, but the Moto’s is above in front use, thanks to the smaller edges. Too bad none of them contain any additional scratch protection here.
If there’s one thing that ties this issue together, it’s the resolution. The G53 only delivers an HD+, against a Full HD+ of the M23, for better image definition.
So the Korean takes the point this time.

Still in the multimedia part, Motorola has bet on audio in its intermediaries and placed a stereo system in the G53. Unlike Samsung, which preferred to leave only a mono speaker on the M23, which ends up compromising the immersive experience in it.
The result is a far superior sound power from the Moto compared to the Galaxy. But in terms of quality, the duo fails to provide satisfactory quality, because of the unbalanced frequencies. None of them send a headphone in the box, but at least the user will have a physical jack on them, to plug in any compatible accessory.

System
The G53 comes equipped with Android 13 out of the box, against the native Android 12 of the M23. Motorola guarantees only one software update, while Samsung must deliver at least three versions of the “little robot”. That is, longevity should be greater on the Korean side, even with a more up-to-date initial system on the rival.
On both sides, the mobile network does not disappoint, as they support 5G. Fluidity shouldn’t be a problem either, as the 120 Hz refresh rate ensures smooth navigation.
Moving on to features, Moto stands out for its Secure Folder, a feature similar to that found on the competitor, in addition to the famous gestures to open the camera and turn on the flashlight. In turn, Galaxy allows you to configure for the camera by double-pressing the power button, in addition to shortcuts on the Edge screen.

Motorola put a Snapdragon 480 Plus mobile platform and 4 GB of RAM in its intermediate, against a Snapdragon 750G and 6 GB in Samsung’s. And it seems that this difference in memory had a bigger impact than the different chips. In the second round, Galaxy recorded practically half of Moto’s time, which helped in its total time of 30 seconds less.
The benchmarks also confirm what we saw in our speed tests. Korean comes out on top in both Geekbench and AnTuTu indicators. The games don’t have any big problems. You can run even heavier titles in decent quality.
The M23 was the fastest and takes the point.

Battery
Manufacturers kept the market standard and put a 5,000 mAh battery in their devices. Do the same capacities indicate for similar durations? That’s not what our standardized tests showed. The M23 topped 28 hours, while the G53 stalled at 20 and a half hours.
On reload, we had an inverse scenario, but with little distance between them. Moto was 11 minutes faster than Galaxy. That’s thanks to its 20 W adapter, a little more powerful than the 15 W one that comes in the competitor’s box.

On one side we found two rear cameras on the Moto, and on the other a triple set on the Galaxy. Both are led by a 50 MP main sensor, which gets the colors, contrast and dynamic range right on them. But Samsung’s software is able to explore better at the level of detail. At night, the duo also manages to take satisfactory pictures, with few grains.
These cell phones also have a macro lens, which lacks low resolution and lack of autofocus. The Korean is the only one to come with an ultrawide camera, which may be far from perfect in terms of sharpness, but it already serves to capture more of the scenarios.
With the most versatile set here, Samsung scores the point this time around.

Only the Galaxy has a camcorder that supports 4K videos, even restricted to 30 fps. Moto is limited to Full HD resolution. The front camera of both has 8 MP resolution. But Samsung makes better use of the sensor and records selfies with greater clarity than Motorola, both during the day and at night.
