Mothers of Tekoporã Mbarete families in Itapúa join together to promote community gardens

Asuncion, IP Agency.- A group of 16 families participating in the Tekoporã Mbarete Program, led by mothers, came together to prepare a community garden in the Cambyreta area, in the “Los Pinos” settlement.

Thanks to the support of the Yacyreta Binational Entity, the women implemented this project, considering the importance of producing healthy, low-cost food, as well as promoting community work to improve the conditions of the inhabitants of said settlement.

The coordinator of the Tekoporã Program in the Center-South area of the Itapúa department, Natalia Romero, indicated that she was grateful for the support of EBY, who provided the seedlings and seeds, as well as the technical training to start this project.

The mothers began to grow various varieties of vegetables on the prepared planks, as well as in other smaller beds, such as purple lettuce, green cabbage, tomato, cucumber, bell pepper and chard.

This practice is promoted by the MDS in the various settlements and social territories, where participants of the Tekoporã Mbarete Program must generate other sources of income, in addition to receiving the Conditional Monetary Transfers.

These microprojects also serve to improve family nutrition at a reduced cost and to promote joint work among community members.
