‘Mother! Wrestling won, I lost’ brave Indian wrestler announces retirement – World

Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat announced his retirement from wrestling after being disqualified for being overweight in the women’s 50 kg final at the Paris Olympics.

According to the foreign news agency ‘AFP’, 29-year-old world bronze medalist Vinesh Phogat came into the limelight last year for joining the long-running protests against the head of Indian wrestling due to the harassment scandal.

Three-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Vinesh Phogat was scheduled to face USA’s Sarah Hildebrand in the final at the Paris Olympics yesterday, but her weight was found to be 100 grams over the 50 kg limit.

While sharing the message on the social networking website X, the Indian wrestler expressed his disappointment and wrote in his message that “Mom!” The wrestling is won, I lose, my dreams and my courage are broken, I have no more strength.

Sarah Hildebrandt, who was defeated by Vinesh Phogat in the semi-finals, won the gold medal by defeating the Cuban Yuznelas Guzman Lopez in the final.

According to Indian media, Vinesh Phogat has appealed against his disqualification to the Court of Arbitration (CAS) and demanded to be jointly awarded the silver medal.

The decision is expected to be announced by the arbitration court in Paris on Thursday.
