She just wants to be able to hug her Stefan once more. Georgeta Marcu (42) from Mehren in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate has been missing her son for more than two months. Stefan Ionita (21) suddenly disappeared. The last useful track leads to Felsberg GR.
On May 18, the world still seemed fine. Stefan was at home. “It was a Wednesday. I went to Stefan’s room in the evening and said good night to him, »says the Romanian to Blick. Then the mother goes into her room and goes to bed. she falls asleep
But suddenly she wakes up. “During the night I heard a car outside. I thought it was the neighbors.” In the morning, the mother looks into Stefan’s bedroom. Shock! The son is gone. And his Hyundai is no longer there either. “He had no school that day,” says Marcu. “And he only has to go there in the followingnoon for his internship at the restaurant.”
The mysterious message in Stefan’s room
She discovers a note in Stefan’s room. It reads, “I’m sorry I lied to you and let you down. But it’s my decision.” The note leaves the mother perplexed. She doesn’t understand what her son means by that, she says. “We always had a good relationship and talked regarding everything.”
Marcu reports to the police that same morning. And the mother also starts an appeal via Facebook. With success. A first lead. “A man then replied that he had seen Stefan’s car in a parking lot in Felsberg in the canton of Graubünden.”
But the son is missing. He left everything in the car. “His identity card, driver’s license, the key to the car, the registration papers and money.” The son even left his cell phone at home.
Graubünden canton police searched with a sniffer dog
The Graubünden cantonal police confirmed Blick that they were aware of the missing Stefan Ionita. “We found his car in a parking lot in Felsberg at the end of May,” says spokesman Markus Walser. «We made a search on site, also with a sniffer dog. Unfortunately, the search was unsuccessful.”
In Switzerland, no additional public search is being carried out, as in Germany there is already an official missing persons report with an active search, Walser continued. The German police made the report before the car was found. It says that Ionita left the apartment in Mehren around 11 p.m. on May 18 with his white Hyundai. Walser emphasizes that the German authorities have the lead in this matter.
But: «As soon as there are new findings, they will let us know. Until then, the Graubünden cantonal police will not carry out any active searches, but will look out for the person according to the current missing persons report. »
So far, Ionita seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth. The mother even went to Switzerland herself, hung up posters with her son’s photo and hired two private detectives. It did not help. “I don’t know where he might be. I ask everyone who reads the Blick article to keep their eyes open for Stefan, »says the mother desperately. Because she continues to hope that her Stefan will be found. “I think my son is still alive.”
Was his willingness to help his undoing?
She cannot and does not want to imagine that her son is no longer alive. Suicide? excluded for them. ‘He disappeared over two months ago. His body would have been found long ago. Besides, he had everything at home.” She also thinks it is unlikely that others have done something to him. “He never had contact with bad people. He wasn’t a problem child. He didn’t drink, didn’t use drugs, didn’t smoke.”
Marcu also rules out the possibility that Stefan’s father might have had anything to do with the disappearance. “Stefan has no contact with him. He’s definitely not with him in Romania.”
The mother currently has a completely different theory: “He is a very helpful boy. Maybe someone needed his help. He said yes, but wouldn’t tell me regarding it. Because he knew I wouldn’t have allowed him to go far.”
If Stefan Ionita is still alive, his mother is convinced that he is not doing well. “I think he’s in a bad situation.” She’s not doing well either. The two months of fear, doubt and worry have left their mark. “I can not sleep at night. I can’t eat. But I can’t pass the time at home either, because the apartment has too many memories of my son in it.” Georgeta Marcu only wants one thing: “I just want to be able to hug my Stefan once more.”
